Eau Claire Favourites for National Negroni Week

Originally created in Italy, the Negroni has become a mixologist’s staple thanks to the cocktail’s perfect balance of both bitter and sweet flavours. The time-tested cocktail is being celebrated this week and, as a well-known gin cocktail favourite, we knew it was time to divulge our top three Negroni recipes for you to try!

The Classic Negroni

You can’t start a blog post about the Negroni without a traditional recipe. Before we dive into some Eau Claire variations, try our Classic Negroni made with Parlour Gin.

Ingredients:
0.75 oz Parlour Gin
0.75 oz Campari
0.75 oz Sweet Vermouth
Garnish: Flamed Orange Peel

Start Mixing:
Add all the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice, and stir until chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over large ice cubes.

Flaming your orange peel lightly caramelizes the oil and subtly enhances its flavor. To flame the orange peel, light a match, holding it a few inches above the cocktail and below the orange peel (colored side down). Wave and twist the peel over the match to warm the oils, then rub the peel around the rim of the glass, dropping the twist into the cocktail when finished.

Cherry Gin Negroni

Our next Negroni has a special Eau Claire spin to it, using Cherry Gin instead of Parlour Gin. To add a little extra Eau Claire, we also include a Single Malt Whisky soaked cherry for garnish.

Ingredients:
1 oz Eau Claire Distillery Cherry Gin
1 oz Aperol
0.5 oz Odd Society Bittersweet Vermouth
Garnish: Orange Peel and Whisky-Infused Cherry

How-to:
Begin by adding the Cherry Gin, Aperol and vermouth into a mixing glass with ice and stirring until chilled. Strain the mixture into a rocks glass over large ice cubes and garnish with the whisky-infused cherry wrapped in an orange peel.

Barrel-Aged Negroni

Last but not least, Eau Claire’s staple and claim-to-fame Negroni: the Barrel-Aged Negroni.

Ingredients:
0.75 oz Parlour Gin
0.75 oz Campari
0.75 oz Fallentimber Pyment
Garnish: Orange Peel

Instructions:
Barrel-age the mixture for one month. To prepare, add all the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice, and stir until chilled. Strain into a rocks glass filled with large ice cubes. Garnish with an orange peel. Pro-tip, rub the peel on the rim of the glass for extra flavor.
