Eau Claire Distillery sweeps world stage at New York Whisky Competition
Turner Valley, Alberta (June 10, 2019) – Alberta’s original craft distillery, Eau Claire Distillery, has added two more spirit competition awards to its belt with recent wins at the New York International Spirits Competition.
Among over 600 submissions from 29 countries, Eau Claire Distillery’s Single Malt Whisky rose to the top, claiming a 94 rating which classified the spirit as a Gold Winner. In addition to this award, the New York International Spirits Competition chose Eau Claire Distillery as the Canada Whiskey Distillery of the Year.
The New York International Spirits Competition is renowned in the spirits industry as a prestigious competition and continues to grow it’s following as a result of its unique format. Spirits are not only judged by their category, but by their price as well. Every judge is carefully selected and holds a place as a contributing member of the beverage trade to ensure that the judges have a well-rounded view of quality and taste in the spirits industry.
The Single Malt Whisky is the second release of Eau Claire whisky, made from Alberta malted barley. The subtly complex whisky has flavours of vanilla and caramel, with a long oaky finish and raisin undertones. Crafted with careful attention to every step of the process, Eau Claire’s Single Malt Whisky embodies the distillery’s motto that “to make a masterpiece, no compromise can be tolerated.” Produced and bottled in the building that once housed Turner Valley’s only movie theatre, Single Malt Whisky Batch 002, is handcrafted in small batches and aged in a combination of new European oak, ex-bourbon and sherry barrels. Eau Claire’s popular whiskies have been a sellout success for each of its two prior releases.
In addition to Single Malt Whisky Batch 002, Eau Claire’s lineup of spirits gathers more awards. Parlour Gin won Best Canadian London Dry Gin in the World Gin Awards in 2019 as well as Parlour Gin was awarded Best in Class – Platinum in the 2018 SIP Awards. Prickly Pear EquineOx has been awarded Double Gold in the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and won Silver in 2017 and 2018 at the SIP Awards. Cherry Gin claimed Silver in 2019 at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and Gold in the 2018 SIP awards.
Eau Claire Distillery plans to release its third annual Single Malt Whisky this fall, beginning with an exclusive launch to its Cask Club members. For further information, please visit eauclairedistillery.ca.
