Did you know, May 20th is National Caesar Day which is a holiday we can get behind. Here at Eau Claire Distillery, we thought, why limit the celebration of Canada’s favorite cocktail to one day, when you can celebrate it for the whole month of May! That’s why we have officially deemed May, National Caesar Month!
There are a ton of ways to make a Caesar, but it is really hard to beat the original. One way we like to switch it up is by adding our seasonal Dill Pickle Vodka to a classic Caesar. Yes, you read that right, DILL PICKLE VODKA. We original launched it as part of our Distiller Series, but with a cult-like following and selling out in record time, we added it to our regular seasonal rotation.
If you have yet to give it a try, we highly recommend you grab yourself a bottle while you can. As we said, it sells out fast and once it’s gone, it’s gone for another year!
If you’re looking for a few different recipes to spice up your Caesar game, we’ve got four different options for you to try for a refreshing summer ahead!
Classic Dill Pickle Caesar
To make, you’ll need:
2oz Dill Pickle Vodka
4oz Clamato or Walters Caesar Mix
Caesar Rimmer, we like the Walter Craft Caesar Rim
0.5oz Lime Juice
3 Dashes of Tabasco
4 Dashes of Worcestershire
Pickle for Garnish
Pour rimmer onto plate. Wet rim of glass with a wedge of lime and dip into rimmer. Fill glass with ice and pour in Dill Pickle Vodka, clamato or walters caesar mix, lime juice, Tabasco, and Worcestershire. Season to preference. Garnish with pickle garnish. Cheers!
For something completely different, or if you’ve recently run out of vodka, we suggest adding gin for an equally tasty and spicy Caesar. We know that some people swear by a classic vodka Caesar, but we challenge you to add gin as it offers some incredible flavour subtleties. The trick is to find the perfect gin and we suggest adding our award-winning Parlour Gin that pairs well with the tomato and clam flavours in clamato.
Gin Caesar
To make, you’ll need:
2oz Parlour Gin
4oz Clamato
Caesar Rimmer, we recommend a mix of lemon pepper seasoning and Montreal steak spice!
3 Dashes of Hot Sauce
4 Dashes of Worcestershire
Olive Brine (to taste)
0.5 oz Limes Juice
Optional Garnish:
Spicy Pepperoni Stick
Olives or Pickled Vegetable
Pour rimmer onto plate. Wet rim of glass with lime juice and dip into rimmer. Fill glass with ice and pour in Parlour Gin, clamato, hot sauce, and Worcestershire and to season to preference. Garnish with your favourite garnishes, the more the better right? Enjoy!
You can also make a Caesar with beer and vodka. The Mexican Caesar features a beer variation from a popular Mexican cocktail, the Michelada. The Michelada is traditionally made with beer, tomato juice, lime and a mixture of spices. But, to make it into a true Caesar we do 1-part Clamato and 1-part tomato juice or skip the tomato juice and just add clamato. You’ll also add an ounce of vodka and garnish with all the fixings. For this, we like to go big and include a chicken wing, cheese, jalapeno or even a taco! A cocktail should be a full meal anyway, right?
Mexican Caesar
To make, you’ll need:
0.5 cup Light local lager
0.5 cup Clamato/Tomato Juice or Both
1oz Three Point Vodka
3-4 Dashes of Valentina’s Salsa Picante
8 Dashes of Worcestershire
1oz Lime Juice
Garnish with a chicken wing, cheese, jalapeno or even a taco!
Fill glass with beer, clamato and/or tomato juice and 1 oz of Three Point Vodka. Add Valentina’s and Worcestershire. Top with garnishes. We love a hilariously over-the-top garnish!
The whisky Caesar is packed full of bold flavour that we can’t get enough of. If you find the taste of vodka and gin is hidden by clamato juice in the other recipes, try switching it out with your favorite whisky. We recommend our Rupert’s Whisky that is perfect for mixing. If you have any candied bacon laying around, this is the perfect recipe to mix in some bold flavours and add a little bit of liquid smoke to bring out the flavours of the whisky.
Whisky Caesar
2oz Rupert’s Exceptional Canadian Whisky
4 oz Clamato
3 Dashes Worcestershire
3 Dashes Hot Sauce
2-3 Dashes of Liquid Smoke
1-2 tsp Horseradish
1oz Lime Juice
Caesar Rimmer of your choice – we recommend a mix of celery salt and Montreal steak spice!
Pour rimmer onto plate. Wet rim of glass with lime juice and dip into rimmer. Fill glass with ice and pour in Rupert’s Whisky, clamato, hot sauce, liquid smoke, horseradish and Worcestershire and season to preference. Garnish and enjoy!
